In terms of importance? It kickstarted Super Cena and Batista as the new faces of the company and started MITB so its a signficiant turning point in the company.

As a PPV event? Meh. Only matches I remember enjoying was HBK vs Angle and Orton vs Taker, and MITB.

21 isn't bad though. I think it's a very important show in that it's the first one in the RA to really push new guys. Bats and Cena weren't WCW guys. So it's important in that it started all that off.

Batista vs HHH is a very underappreciated storyline. All of the matches were great and after 3 years of this big nosed fuck hogging screen time, it was great to see him finally get BTFO and not come back.

It’s part of the once in a lifetime streak of good manias from WM17-WM24 so it will always have that.

I personally always saw it as kind of a reverse WrestleMania 20. Where 20 had a pretty meh undercard but had amazing main events, WM 21 had an amazing undercard but terrible main events. It’s pretty middling altogether but enjoyable.

A very good Mania, not top 5 or anything, but it was the beginning of both Cena and Batista who both beat hot-as-shit heels who were built up over the past year.

Undercard is tremendous, and love the shit like Piper's Pit and Hogan's cameo. Great sports entertainment show in the essence it was originally conceived (in some Vince shit fetish that he had to dial back to a great concept).

I went on a trip to New York to meet my step fathers long time friend who he used to share ECW tapes with. I was 7 and had literally no desire to even ask for PPVs because I barely understood that it was an option. We went to that friends fathers house and they gave me graham crackers and said there’s something I needed to watch. I damn near cried when the show started, I felt like I was getting like a forbidden experience entertainment wise that I’d never feel again. I’m way too bias to rate this WM.

I could be rememberig this wrong but I see to remember that the WWE was clearly pushing Batista to be what John Cena eventually became but Dave got hurt/tore his tricep or whatever and was out of action forever which gave rise to Super Cena? Idk it's been a long time but it's ironic.

They wanted him to but out or respect for Taker and the streak he refused to do it. Ironically it made all the sense in the world for Randy to snap the streak that year if it was going to happen as The Legend Killer. Almost no bigger legend to ever kill than Taker's WM streak.

That being said I kind of chuckle thinking about how Randy a few others were pitched the idea and shot it down out of sheer reverence for Taker and what the streak means.

And then there's Brock Lesnar who was probably like "I don't give shit. I'll fuckin pin him. You'll pay me. I'll go home to my farm to F5 my stallions or whatever the fuck."

I feel like Cena didn't become Super Cena and start "underdogging" pins and submission against everyone's favorite wrestlers every week until Batista was out of the picture and shelved after the big injury he had. At that point with Batista gone they pushed all their chips on building Cena.

It's functionally one of the best PPVs they've ever done for putting over new talent. Batista, Cena, Edge and Orton(lost) all got their big moments here.
