After the Wrestlemania press conference in Vegas there was a backstage interview with HHH where the Rock walks by and tells HHH to fix this shit, referring to Cody challenging Roman to a title match at Mania. Dave then reports that there was another backstage segment that wasn't aired but went viral on social media where the Rock/HHH face off/touch noses with each other and HHH alludes a match between him and the Rock at Mania. The only problem is that the face off happened 10 years ago and has nothing to do with the current Bloodline/Cody storyline.

The real problem with that story isn't even so much that he got fooled by a 10 year old clip. That's just dumbass Dave Meltzer stuff. The bigger thing is that he flat out lied and said he talked to "virtually everyone" backstage about the angle. If he had talked to one person, they would have corrected him.

It exposed so much in one incident. Getting fooled by that video is inexcusable, not only do both guys look completely different but Stephanie is front and center and theres an old WWE 2K cover in the background. But it also shows the pathetic lack of legwork in his “reporting,” which is already a meme at this point anyway. Like you said, all he had to do was ask one person in WWE and they would have shut it down immediately. A Rock/HHH tease would be a massive story, even if he did get worked by the video somehow any real journalist would have done a bunch of follow up reporting with their sources in WWE to get more background on it. Dave is just a doddering old man and what few sources he does have left are just constantly working him to their own benefit. Tony tells him some bullshit story about how somebody offered $100m for 10% of AEW, and Dave will spend years touting it as a billion dollar company.
