And Angle who was coming out of a neck surgery which probably didn’t do wonders for his temper was briefed accordingly. He went hard on the first guy and pinned him like they do in olympic wrestling and that should have been that but Kurt then picked Puder at random. Puder used a submission hold which is legal in MMA and submission matches but very very illegal in wrestling, so Kurt wasn’t expecting it and only barely salvaged the situation thanks to quick thinking by him and one of the refs.
I’m not really sure why Puder didn’t get the implication it was going to be a worked shoot. Or why he thought the Olympic wrestler was going to go with him at something other than amateur wrestling. It was the same with Big Show and the guys sand bagging him, some of them thought it was for real when it was supposed to be for show. Whether it was their ego or stupidity I don’t know.
So Kurt was wrong to challenge a second dude and Puder was wrong for going to business for himself AND locking in a submission in a wrestling match. Not sure why this HAS to be controversial. All Puder had to do was try to be competitive at grappling but then get pinned by Kurt. It’s common sense and real easy to understand unless you’re a mark.
But everyone has an ego and insecurity so they have to take a dumb ass stance about this incident
