They wanted to have the company’s balls in a vice grip and run the entire asylum. If they wound up having their way nobody would’ve been at the top but them. They didn’t just want to bully Rock they wanted to keep him down. Plus HBK being a racist fuck to Rock’s grandmother in Hawaii and trying to intentionally shoot kick his teeth down his throat on TV on top of all the politicking to try and have Rock buried and made look weak (Bret Hart says in a shoot interview that coming into his match against Rock HBK tried to have the finish changed to a squash or something along those lines and Bret said fuck you that doesn’t do anything for my new heel turn and just screws Rocky over and stuck with taking the DQ loss but beating Rock’s character up after so that young Rock doesn’t lose but Bret can get heat). It ruined Rock-HBK’s relationship permanently and robbed us of getting what would have been a fucking DRAW and a half of a feud between those two. Just not good imo.
Fun fact there’s an audio interview with a Mark Henry where he tells the story of how The Kliq tried to put literal shit in Rock’s lunch/sandwich when he wasn’t around.
