He played the long game, knowing that the money to be gained from steaming deals would not only surpass PPV revenue, but it would also provide more consistent income regardless of how bad the product becomes. And as a bonus, it devalues the PPV business of other promotions and frustrates any potential new fans.
It was a shrewd business move with a lot of risk, but at this point, it's fair to say that the gamble paid off. This is probably the last smart business move that Vince made too.
