Got spotted walking around suspiciously and called about, cop came in to arrest him and he did the whole "Dindu nuffin - just going to work" act and didn't comply in the cuff and search. Was packing power tools and shit.
So OK, the cop was being a a bit of a dickhead to begin with it but the smarter thing would have been to comply when your ass already got snatched by a solo patrol, they ain't taking chances of you pulling even a pencil on them.
