It's not to much for a top guy. It is probably to much for an unproven draw in America.

It's probably also gonna negatively impact a locker room who has had a history of turmoil. If your an AEW wrestler that is actually competitive you gotta me miserable knowing Tony is gonna new people every few weeks, pay them more and have them push you further down the card.

This was what caused the issues in WCW in the late 90s

He's not really unproven, the Forbidden Door shows were both significantly built around him and both were very successful, he also has a pretty consistent record on American New Japan shows. More to the point, this is what it had to cost to get him to leave New Japan. You can't quibble over dollar amounts at that point.

Having to work somewhere despite other people making more money than you has been a thing in wrestling, in sports and just in life in general for a really long time. This isn't the first time a wrestler has had to see a new guy come in making more money than him, and it won't be the last.

No, that's literally not true. What caused WCW issues wasn't that they were spending money, it's that they weren't making money. They didn't have the revenue streams and the nature of making money in wrestling has completely changed since then.

Absolutely less than they make now and that goes for everyone. Individual wrestlers provide much less value than ever. There's no point paying someone 7 figures when you can get equally good results from paying someone else 6 figures. And everyone should be working with the full knowledge that they can be easily replaced in a year by a college athlete who's better, willing to work for less, and won't bitch about their place.

Cody Rhodes, second gen wrestler.
Seth Rollins, indie wrestler.
Drew McIntyre, indie wrestler.
CM Punk, indie wrestler.
Becky Lynch, indie wrestler.
Rhea Ripley, indie wrestler.
Iyo Sky, joshi wrestler.
Bayley, indie wrestler.

You can fill out your prelims and midcard with college athletes, but it's been pretty conclusively proven at this point, you need wrestlers who understanding wrestling to be your top guys.

He's hardly a top guy though. Sure he's gonna pop a certain type of mark but does it justify spending 3 mil a year on him, especially if you're the B-Promotion? I don't think so.
TK wanted him and it makes sense to offer more than the competition but at the same time realistically how much do you think Haitch or Nujapan offered him? I highly doubt it was anywhere above 1mil.
It just doesn't make sense to pay that much for a guy who isn't a huge needle mover. Someone poked fun at the WWE paying Lesnar 12mil a year but it shows in the ratings, every time Lesnar is on screen the ratings go apeshit high. Okada isn't going to draw in anyone who wasn't watching the show already.
