95% of Cody’s story irl is actually The Lock minus forming AEW. Was in the WWE based on prior merit (in the sense that Cody is the son of Dusty, The Lock was a notable Indy name which is a little different). Gets the boot/leaves. Has to start from the bottom/the indies, works his way up to New Japan and becomes a big star using his own gimmick (later forms his own stable kinda reflective of Cody joining The Elite a little), WWE takes him back as his own character, he feuds for the belt and becomes champion (loosely).
