Ran low on food during a long ass backpacking trip in NC (mountains to sea trail).
Finished hike, got my at the trailhead. First place I saw was publix.
I hit the hot bar, and got cornbread and milk and a sixer of wicked weed.
Ate it under a tree in the parking lot.
Yum.

Holy fucking based. I worked on that trail from 2005 to 2007. The entire Mt. Mitchell section of the trail was cleared and rebuilt by myself and two other guys. I used to carry 8x8 posts up the mountain one at a time before burying them to make the steps. I swear by the time I had finished the mountain section I had bigger calves, quads, hammies, lats, delts, and traps than I have ever had in my life. I also had the cardio to run up the mountain from the trail head at the base in one go without stopping.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but NC Publix are legitimately horrible in comparison to the Florida stores where the company is located. I was just having this conversation with a family member the other day. The rice and beans provide enough protein on their own, the salt pork adds some much needed fats and flavor. You don't need much and you toss it in with the beans right near then end so that they are fully cooked first and are just soaking up the flavors. I'll skip the meat when I am making beans and rice on Fridays or during Lent (right now). When I skip the salt pork I will use butter instead.

I haven't bought raw wings in awhile but my mom has gotten into cooking them with her Instapot, and I promise they come out better than any I've ever had... every time. It's like some kind of miracle. In fact, im going to buy her some tomorrow and go over and help her cook so i can learn the secret.
Even though my Publix doesn't have the hotbar, Winn Dixie always has lots of wings in the deli, tossed or rubbed in various flavors, for pretty cheap compared to what I'm reading. I don't even bother with Whole Foods anymore.

I don't think we have White Castle in the South. I'm not even sure where the Krystal is here. I think the cheapest bang for your buck fast food in my neighborhood is probably Checkers or Zacadoos.

Howdy. I used to work at a theater right by one before I moved, I remember a young couple giving us a giant bag once before their movie bc it was too much food. i just went back to work at a corporate-owned store for the first time in five years
they're really pushing the "we're a family, you guys!!!" shit and i hate it. I spent the last five years as the sole white guy working for a mom-and-pop store owned by an Paki family. They were all ESL plus never really saw me as one of them anyways, so I didn't have to talk to them outside of very brief small talk when everyone was getting ready to leave. It felt so good just working and doing my job without having to keep up appearances socially.

This kind of corporate speak serves two purposes. To filter the human beings out, and to cultivate a workforce of drones that will put their own lives to the side to serve their overlords. It's the same shit the military does with the commradery, brotherhood, and duty bullshit they indoctrinate you into so that you waste twenty years of your life as a slave to a system that hates you and would use you to murder your own family if they thought they could get away with it.
