But Watchmen is meant to be a narrative in 12 parts. 12 is very important to the story because it's ultimately about a Doomsday Clock reaching midnight. Making all 12 parts into one big movie robs that from the story; a story about comics. Did you know Ozymandias having 9 TVs tuned to different stations that change randomly is supposed to represent comic books displaying the zeitgeist of the day? It is more poignant in comics to see a 9 panel display than in a movie.
Watchman should have either been a 12 part miniseries or left as a comic. When Terry Gilliam wanted to bring it to the screen, he called Alan Moore and asked him how he would adapt the story. Moore simply said, "I wouldn't," and Gilliam scrapped it. Snyder though, he just really wanted to film those fight scenes.
