This was Letterman’s first season, he was already in the midst of a no-Milly streak and 3/4’s of the viewing audience had no clue what was going on, they knew who Kaufman was maybe as the guy who did the funny voice on Taxi and when he wouldn’t do it they changed the channel. That guy had one of the most dimeless schticks in all of TV:
