It's absolutely done damage to them. I read once that one of the common factors in schizophrenia is growing up in a large pop city like NY or LA. I think zoomies have simulated that unintentionally by being on the internet since 7 and documenting their entire lives on it since then. Shit's fucked, man. I make an effort to avoid them when playing online games anymore because of it.

It's not really the same at all, part of why social media fucks with us so badly is that we lack most of the tools we usually use to process interaction with people, you can't really get angry and get a response, or you can't gage tone of voice, etc. Our brains are just not made for digital communication, and while we can get around that somewhat, we can't get around it entirely. And that's just the surface.
