>Mercedes Mone’s debut sparked a huge ratings increase for AEW Big Business, as All Elite Wrestling’s newest CEO drew 801,000 viewers with a 0.27 rating in the 18-49 demo, up 3% & from last week’s disappointing 779,000 viewers and 0.27 in 18-49. Mone (FKA Sasha Banks) headlined a star-studded Dynamite television special, which Tony Khan—AEW’s other CEO—called AEW’s biggest show yet.
>In front of an impressive crowd of 9,500, Dynamite’s biggest attendance in months, Mone cut an emotional promo to begin the show. Mone’s friends and WWE Superstars Bayley, Naomi and Tamina were also in attendance to support their friend in her big moment.
>Mercedes’ promo was a course correction of sorts following a brutally honest moment during a podcast appearance where she admitted she expected to be back in WWE someday.
>Mone’s AEW debut received mostly positive reactions from fans and media as she looks to kickstart a promising, but struggling, women’s division.
>The Rock’s promo on SmackDown two weeks ago opened the show, while his promo this past week was saved for the main event segment. WWE’s strategy of making fans wait for the biggest star on the show led to an increase in viewership. Given AEW’s moderate increase in total viewership, AEW’s quarter-hour viewership for Big Business saw Mone’s opening segment draw one million viewers before a steep dropoff to 627,000 viewers for the main event.
>These numbers essentially taught the same lesson about saving the best for last.
