Isn't it legitimately the craziest thing? Even each year of the Attitude Era felt different from the next. The majority of the roster changed so much year to year then too. Not just who was there but looks and gimmicks. Austin was on top for like 2-3 years max. It was all so fleeting but everything felt monumental. Meanwhile you could look from 2010 to 2020 and still maybe only have half as much to talk about. That's just accounting for the WWF side of things too. Add in WCW and ECW as well and man... we had it good

This roman shit wouldve lasted 6 months and theres no way in hell somebody this shit at literally everything would have been this babied.

Its why i cant stand hunter's booking. Even when vince was senile, he could normally sense when a changeup was needed before people got sick of it.

Hunter's so aloof, he books the same storyline up and down the card across shows.

Back then they had to give it their best on a weekly consistent basis or literally go down with the ship. So many people now have no clue how WCW was legit competition to WWF in terms of quality and star power. For the record, it's insane just how perfect The Rock and Austin's rise to stardom really was. In my opinion, it's the standard to how every wrestler should be booked if you want them to become a star.
>Stay in the midcard for a couple of years and give them enough time to get over with the crowd
>Keep booking them in significant angles
>When the time is right, start booking them in the main event.
It was just perfect timing for both of them.

This. I feel like you don't really see too much of that anymore. Lately and even in the last decade or so if they have someone they want as world champion they'll likely be there in a matter of a year or two. Granted it's different now with the gridlock of Roman and no upward mobility for most of the card. But take Edge for example. By the time he had reached the main event organically he had been there for 6-7 years. Add on another before he won his first world title. If it takes someone 8 years to win a world title in WWE then chances are they were either released at some point and had to do all of that legwork themselves outside of the company or they weren't someone WWE ever intended on making a world champion

What's even more remarkable with The Rock is that he managed to get over without even getting a rub from a previous major star. Austin had Bret & Shawn, but The Rock got over off his promos, segments, and the Nation who were around the same age as him. It would probably be next to impossible for this to happen again.

I dunno. 2019 WWE feels different than 2024 WWE. But I just mean that in regards to their booking. Bret and Shawn both left around similar times after being the top guys. I can see why the change felt drastic. Plus, Austin and Rock left pretty quick and then Orton, Cena, Triple H and Batista hung around for awhile.

Honestly it's just the buildup and the first year and a half that I remember.
A quarter into 1999 and it all turns to shit. May and June, absolutely forgettable except for the reveal of the higher power.

I don't know why but my biggest memory of 1999 is Hardcore Holly fighting Bart Gunn in the entrance stage and then some random masked guy in a prison suit attacking Bart
Then the next week Bart Gunn was feuding with Jim Ross and Dr. Death

Objectively the top 5 are Austin, Rock, Mankind, Taker, Kane.

Next tier starts with Ken Shamrock and then arguably Hunter, but honestly the Outlaws were way bigger than he ever was in these years. Goldust probably above HHH in terms of being a representative for the era. Pillman is above hbk, who spent the whole time dilating on his couch at home.

Most of them (except D'Lo) are a decade older than The Rock. You're right that it's pretty much impossible to have someone like him ever again because he's already a complete package at such a young age, dude's only 28 during WM17.
