Tough to win over WWE fans that aren't already won over at this point. If you want an instant difference maker you'd need someone who appeals to people outside of that fanbase.
CM Punk was that. Has a ton of fans who don't watch WWE as you can see with his Raw quarters. He gets a huge spike in his segments and then they all bounce lol

All of them. Mercedes, Bryan, Cole, Joe. Hell, look at the unattainable burden they put on Edge in their minds. Majority of his return run in WWE was spent fueling up the midcard as if that wasn't exactly what he'd do in AEW. Which oh hey it has. But since he was going to AEW he's now supposedly meant to be some new face of the company and sell out arenas when even at his peak in WWE he was the guy fed to all the other top stars and is now openly in the twilight of his career. It's why I can't take any of their narratives seriously

That NXT number isn't quite as telling as people spin it to be. Don't forget just this past year they stacked a commercial free first 30 minutes or hour or so and had Cody, Asuka, Cena, AND Undertaker all on there and it still didn't get 1m. Two of those guys are the exact guys Edge was fed to at his peak too
The idea of him carrying the company though is completely wild though when he's going in there saying he thinks he only had x amount of time left before he's going to call it a day. I'd be lying if I said wouldn't like to see AEW put the belt on him. I still think he should have won that Mania match with Roman and Bryan too. But to look at a guy who could need to walk away again tomorrow and be like 'how come he didn't get AEW a milly?' is just so, so stupid and quite clearly done in bad faith
