>>13815494Yep. Kayfabe is dead because the marks are in the ring. They don't understand the business and the reason for kayfabe. They think because fans know it's all a work, that they will play along even if it's not treated as believable. But that's false.
It was common knowledge back in the 60s that wrestling is a work. But promoters would play with fan expectations and use heated angles to make the fans temporarily buy into it as though it were real. That's how films and TV works too. It's called verisimilitude. For wrestling, it needs to be present everywhere, from live interviews to talk shows to social media. That's how it works.
Smarks will shit on Hogan for "spreading lies" like that Andre was 500 lbs, he almost tore his back to slam him, he worked 400 days a year, etc. But that's kayfabe! "Shoot" interviews are full of lies anyway because wrestlers are carnies, especially the old school guys. Jake Roberts, for example, is an excellent liar and makes shit up as he pleases, but smarks buy it.
Bring back kayfabe. #1 rule: If you can't do it believably, then DONT DO IT. Following that one simple rule would end the dimeless, cooperative gymnastics spots that are a cancer to wrestling. But the smarks hate kayfabe because they hate wrestling. They only like wrestling ironically, and have to pretend that all that matters is athletic moves. No wonder modern "wrestling" looks more like synchronized tumbling.
