Genuinely without console wars, what is working so well with WWE? They are selling tickets like fucking crazy, but when I watch the weekly shows, I’m relatively bored out of my mind still.

People were caught up in the whole social media revolution gimmick, and the rebels all rallied behind AEW because it was the underdog that was going to stick it to the evil and complacent WWE.
Several years later those same people realized that the revolutionary alternative was just the son of a rich guy killing the indies to book a show targeted towards an audience of one out of touch guy from the Bay area.
Those people are all back with their tail between their legs and WWE is hot again. Maybe that was the plan all along, people have been talking about WWE complacency and how they'd be good if there was competition for years and years.

WWE doesn't charge a fortune for tickets. I can buy a WWE ticket, at a reasonable price, and get a good enough seat with a good view.

AEW charges a lot just to sit in the nosebleeds. People are struggling to buy food and pay rent in this economy. If they're charging that much, you might as well stay home. Yeah we know AEW eventually lowers the price by a lot, but that's last minute when they're desperate to get people to attend

White people/Americans will watch anything as long as it's marketed correctly. How many fucking tickets did Titanic sell despite being the most overrated movie of the 90s? How many copies does GTA move despite being the most overhyped game franchise of all time? Why do people still watch NBA when it peaked 25+ years ago and is filled by uppity basketball-americans? Why did rap music become the biggest genre in the world despite being unintelligible ghetto ramblings? You market something enough with consistency, money, sexy packaging, and national mainstream exposure and it will become accepted by Whites/Americans/Western world. Obviously stupid minorities like blacks/hispanics are also fairly sizeable markets but these things would never be as huge as they are without the majority WHITE audience slurping up the goyslop too.

Why does AEW do differently that WWE? Outside of hardcore matches, AEW doesnt have much more to offer, and while you may find the product boring, and that is fine, I do genuinely think WWE has a better roster of Wrestlers than AEW. Not saying absolutely everyone in WWE is better than those in AEW but most are.

This is what I'm feeling too. They had a surge of momentum coming off of the pandemic with crowds finally be able to return but that. Then about a year ago things were as white hot as I've seen WWE in decades with the Bloodline and Sami and Cody stuff. Truthfully I think a lot of it is riding the momentum from that still. The past year since I feel like the quality of things has fallen off a cliff. At least since Summerslam. So I can't speak to why things are still doing as well but they are. I think it was really smart of them to hit those international markets when they have. Those crowds breathed a new life into shows too. Made them look fun to go to compared to what you get out of WWE's US audiences week to week. It's interesting for sure

I watched a 2 shows this year and so far and both have been subpar (1 raw and 1 smackdown) but its more of my friends going in and being marks. we really didn't care much about the storylines we just wanted to be there and hangout. also as anon said above, its not expensive at all.

They're targeting pop culture. AEW wants to be a niche product (wrestling show). WWE wants to be a content creator using wrestling. They have characters like Rhea Ripley and Dom that genuinely appeal to people and draw them into wrestling. AEW will only ever be as popular as wrestling. WWE can pull from beyond it.

I like most of the characters and the production is pretty good. Saying that as a lapsed fan from the late 90s that picked it back up after the covid era ended. Tried to watch AWE as well but it's just too amateurish and I don't mean in the olympic way.

It is a big live event company that is a household name. Despite people having less money than ever, people are spending way more easily. There has been a book in buying experiences instead of things. People are more likely to go out than they have in previous years. Going to an event to post about being there on social media is a huge thing now, socially. These are all major factors. They also have stars and there are clear stories the audience can follow.
To compare it to AEW, AEW is a largely unknown brand, posting about going to it won't get any real traction. The shows have no stories so if you attend live you just see guys doing moves and for most people that is insanely uninteresting.
Live event business is big now. Every band tours as widely as possible, every comedian is playing as many venues as they can. Etc etc. The mass audience will flock to whichever thing they have heard of, because the average person has no real interest in a thing beyond a surface level. WWE is well known and is a more valuable social media keyword so it is booming.

This, exactly. Raw/Smackdown are the kind of shows an 11 year old can watch while Mom and Dad hang out on the couch browsing social media and chatting about their day

"Hey look, it's Cody! He's gonna win the championship soon!"
"He sure is!"
"Mom, Dad, can we go to Raw when it comes to town??"
"Sure son, of course we will. But you have to keep doing well in school!"

Even as TV-PG, they can still make insider references, CM Punk can take shots at his old company, etc, so it's not a total retard show the entire time. The TV programs lean towards overall entertainment with less wrestling, and appeals more to a casual audience....the PLEs are mainly video recaps to catch you up with longer matches catered to the more involved/die-hard audience. It's the perfect formula.

It appeals to normies as in if its in town and people know about it they’ll check it out regardless if they’re wrestling fans or not.
