>>13864137It wasn't a midcard match. It was a featured main event that didn't go on last. It was promoted just like a main event. Giving just as much if not more build then any other match on card. WrestleMania X8 was promoted as having a quadruple main event (watch the WM X8 preview with The Coach). Hogan/Rock, Austin/Hall, Jericho/HHH, Flair/Taker.

Austin and Hall were basically the featured act on every Raw and SmackDown in the buildup to WrestleMania alongside Rock/Hogan/Nash. Whether it was nWo attacking Rock with hammer and running him over with truck, nWo attacking Austin with cement bricks, Hall main eventing SmackDown against Rock, Austin kidnapping Hall, nWo vs. Rock/Austin in a handicap match. Point being NONE OF THIS WAS CONSIDERED MIDCARD STUFF. Even after WM X8 Hall was still in main event CONSTANTLY. The night after WM x8 the mian event was Hall/Nash vs. Rock/Hogan.
I thought the Austin/Hall match was pretty good personally. Problem is Austin had the finish change to him winning. Orginally Hall was supposed to win and then get heat on Austin after. Austin winning KILLED the nWo angle after only 6 weeks. You don't beat the top main event heels after only 6 weeks. Hall was PISSED "why did you call me and ask me to return if you were gonna waste my time after we agreed to the finish months ago" then started drinking the night before WMX8 right after he was told Austin was going over (he'd been staying sober taking antabuse prior bc he wanted nWo angle to work).
