It feels a little clunky because they're not used to doing it, but what they need is to stick to it even if the ratings dip for a few weeks while fans adjust to the new normal.
They still need to work on shuffling things around -- don't do the Okada/Bucks stuff backstage and then immediately have the Okada/Kingston match, save it for later in the show. The show often has blocks where a guy is everywhere for 1/2 hour, then for the other 90 minutes, nowhere to be seen. Did they leave? Back to the hotel? If they're important enough to feature twice in the same show, then spread those features out. Keep their super-fans tuned in, don't give them an excuse to "DVR the rest and watch it tomorrow" - but then they don't watch.
A W-shaped rating curve isn't ideal but it's better than a constant downward slope. And if AEW is moving to a monthly PPV model, there has to be a focus on storylines and making matches matter. Fans don't exist on Breaking Bad-level character development, but we'd like more than a 20 second interaction backstage.
