>>13887414I understand the purpose of promos. Speaking clearly, telling jokes, getting laughs, these may be entertaining but that doesn't talk people into the building for your next big event. No one is thinking "Rocky called him a roody-poo! That means there's real heat here! I gotta see their match at SummerSlam!" Instead, Rock draws due to his character, his mannerisms, his look, his charisma, later for his Hollywood, iconic status. He's always been an entertainer first and foremost.
Promos are not the only way to draw, or even the most common way. Case in point, Andre the Giant never cut a good promo, and yet he's one of wrestling's all time biggest international draws. Likewise, Rey Mysterio is another example of a draw that simply can't cut a good promo. Brock Lesnar was never good at promos either, so there's another. Goldberg also sucked ass at promos, but was a huge draw.
Finally, I'm not saying Rock can't cut great promos that talk fans into buying/attending the next big event. But he's not better than the 5 I mentioned at doing that specific thing.
Just because I don't think Rocky is top 5 at one aspect of pro wrestling does not mean I think he sucks. Look at who I'm comparing him to!
