The human body just does not function at those heights, the climb is not beginner friendly, and the local weather systems are extremely variable. Out of everybody who attempts to summit it every year, only around one in fifty make it and that includes the richfags so God knows the real average for normal climbers.
People legitimately die attempting this every single year even with all the modern safety standards and experience.
Normies think this is a punchline because they've heard of a fewer peaks that are more dangerous so they wrongly assume its a tourist trap. Base Camp is the tourist trap. Summit is still an incredibly taxing climb.
I've been doing this for nearly 20 years now and I'm still not confident to take on Everest and I don't have 200 large to pay Sherpas to go on ahead with oxygen and ladders for me.
It's a serious climb for experienced climbers.
