Nash is the champion from May to November of a year and the company makes a profit of over 3 million dollars. The subsequent year, Shawn Michaels is champion for the same duration and the company loses 6.5 million dollars. The different between making a profit with Nash and losing money on Michaels is nearly 10 million dollars net difference.
But everybody sucks Shawn's "boytoy" and shits on Nash and says hosses don't draw anymore.
Never has wrestling ever had a bigger like than forsaking wrestlers like Diesel in favor of thousands of HBK clones slapping their thighs for half an hour in "pretty good matches."

During Diesel's title reign WWF operated with split crews on the road e.g. Razor/Taker worked "B" shows in smaller venues while Bret/HBK/Diesel worked "A" shows in larger venues. At tail end of Diesel's title reign WWF made a business decision to cut back to 18 shows per month by ditching the money-losing "B" shows. Less shows featuring more star power resulted in an increase in attendance in 1996 & prior to his jump to WCW, the shows were usually headlined by Diesel facing the WWF Champ in a cage main event.

Diesel did 6,500 at the Nassau Coliseum, 12,133 at the Montreal Forum, 7,000 in Anaheim, 9,000 in Fresno, 12,000 at MSG, 10,000 in Boston, etc. Meanwhile, you have Mabel vs. Bam Bam Bigelow at a Musical Theatre in Warwick, RI that draws 1,500. You also have Shawn Michaels vs. Davey Boy Smith in Rochester, NY drawing 1,700 thus bringing the attendance average during Diesel's title reign down. That's why Dave's averages are misleading, in regards to the WWE Champion pre 1996 (at tail end of Diesel's title reign WWF made a business decision to ditch the money-losing B-shows & have only one touring crew), because you had two separate crews on the road. So, while Diesel's crew are at the big venues & overseas, the B-team is at smaller arenas & high schools.

October 10, 1995

A-team works Sporthalle in Cologne, Germany doing drawing 5,300 (headlined by Diesel vs. Yokozuna). B-team works Civic Center Springfield, MA drawing 1,400 (headlined by The Undertaker vs. Isaac Yankem DDS).

So, if you have Diesel, as your champion, working the A shows & headlining the Nassau Coliseum, Montreal Forum, MSG, the Boston Garden, the Spectrum, Market Square Arena & other big, longtime venues but you have Bigelow, Razor Ramon, The Undertaker etc. working the B-shows, headlining Broome County Arena, the Pittsfield Boys & Girls Club, Patchogue-Medford High School, Mount St. Michael Academy and Bellport High School, among other smaller venues, why should Diesel being credited with the houses the smaller venues drew?

Half of the board wasn't even alive when Nash was wrestling, but it's all true. He was literally just a really tall guy, that's it. The nWo took off because of Hall and Hogan, and later dimes machines like Steiner and Buff joined. That's right Buff was more over than Nash.

Most of the NWO's impact was Hogan turning heel. The Outsiders would probably have gotten old fast by themselves, and of the two, Hall was always more over than Nash until his drinking got out of hand,

Still, I wouldn't say Nash was a main factor in the demise of WCW as a wrestler. As booker, though, he certainly was. The downturn almost precisely coincided to when Nash joined the booking committee, and it only continued to get worse after he was made head booker. That said, there was still a point in the summer of '98 where WCW could have recovered: Hogan's face turn and the breakup of the NWO looked like the potential light at the end of the tunnel at the time. But then Bischoff got removed by Turner management and he was replaced by Russo, and the real death spiral began.
