The ENTIRE creation of Bloodline Rock was a response to fan backlash/pushback against The Rock to the point that the original “D*e Rocky D*e” and “Rocky Sucks” came back. Where have we seen this movie before?
Rocky Maivia and the birth of The Rock. The creation of Bloodline Rock/the return to a truer version of The Rock’s character is almost totally reflective of Rocky Maivia being rejected/pushed back on by the fans who were sick of the “smiles, sunshines and rainbows I’m just happy to be here” type gimmick (ironically this type of gimmick would get over again majorly later post-Attitude era with guys like John Cena doing Hustle Loyalty Respect, a throwback to guys like Hogan who was more like a Superman). Maivia starts coming out as The Rock, referring to himself in the third person, joins the Nation of Domination as a new heel and tells the crowd “The Rock is a lot of things. But sucks…ISN’T one of them!” and the rest is history.
And if the trajectory of it all is mirroring the birth of The Rock, Maivia gets turned on by the fans, turns heel and joins a heel faction bonded by blood/(in that case race), is part of a corporate entity…that means that the People’s Champion is going to return next. And I would put my chips on Rock turning on Roman at some point if not at Mania. Bringing the story of Bloodline Rock’s character arc full circle. This sort of feels like a light “rebirth” of The Rock.
