Benoit was drinking, he had problems with Nancy, along with bottled up insecurities and frustrations all those years later. He lets it snap, he tries to lash out against the world on his wife, he sinks into utter despair. And in his broken mind he doesn't want Daniel to be without a mom or know his dad was a murderer, so he illogically thinks the best thing is to kill him so he doesn't experience that.
I mean, fuck, look at Benoit's surviving kid. That guy just looks permanently broken. Like he never registered how awful Benoit was. He looks like a ticking time bomb and I genuinely hope he never gets into wrestling.
