but they were still getting beat by wwe. people talk about aew in the past as though they were beating wwe or something lol. and the median age of the aew viewer was still 47 so the audience wasn't even much younger than wwe

Why are we acting as if that's some sort of revelation? That's been the case for any other promotion since the WWF became a thing. People switched to WCW because they were tired of how shitty WWF was. People watched TNA for a while because they wanted something different than WWE. NJPW had a big rise in western popularity because people were tired of how shit WWE was. AEW comes along and gives another new alternative to people who were tired of WWE. This isn't news. It's certainly not any kind of own on AEW. It's the way the business exists

People speak on AEW in whatever way is going to cast the worst light on them. They overhype their past years to make their current years seem worse while simultaneously overexaggerating just how bad things actually are currently. It's all as arbitrary as the decided on (by who?) milly benchmark. It doesn't mean anything that they don't get it week to week just like it wouldn't matter if next week but some stroke of miracle they were to get it again. Ratings are down across all companies year to year. If you look back 5 years ago Raw is down by an entire million itself. I say all of this as a WWE fan too. AEW is just another wrestling company. Nothing more. They're not coming to take you from your families. Yet the way people speak on it you'd think it was. It's honestly just weird at this point

Jericho trademarked the Million Viewer Man name and Tony tweeted a self-congratulatory message every time Dynamite crossed the 1 million threshold. Tony also sperged out about Cena and Taker having their 1 milly streaks ended when Dynamite jobbed to NXT. He ended Edge's identical 1 milly streak just a few weeks prior.

Not disputing any of that. It's nice number but it doesn't actually mean anything. Like nothing is actually going to happen one way or another if they get 750k, 975k, or 1.05m. It's not going to change their overall business. It isn't going to shut up their detractors. It isn't going to be the life or death of the company. Whether you were celebrating it like they were or you're celebrating them not getting it, it just doesn't actually matter
