Women are more fun to hang out with when there isn't a goal, a plan or something requiring attention. It's just "Hey Anon, let's hang out" so you talk about work or whatever while the TV is on in the background or you're getting some Chipotle. If you're tired from work or the gym, you let her do the monologuing while you make a few jokes here and there. You're not a woman so she'll appreciate your outside perspective - if you're charming and witty, then it's a no-brainer.
Men are infinitely more fun to be around when you're at the gym, shooting range, shopping for parts to build a new computer, going to a football game, things that require your careful attention. Men will actually feel shame for not paying attention, getting off-task, etc, and will lowkey appreciate being called out on it. Women will feel attacked and personally offended if you tell them "It's the 4th quarter, I really want to watch this" and interrupt their chattering about their bitchy supervisor
It's possible to have male and female purely platonic friends, but you have to put them in their most appropriate roles. If you're still not old/mature enough to keep your romantic life separated from your broader social life ("Don't shit where you eat"), then probably most of this post doesn't apply to you and I wish you luck.
