First he was an annoying rap heel. Then he won people over organically through hardcore matches with ECW talent and turned face. PG happened shortly thereafter, and PG Face Cena was really really bad. You can see all the problems with Super Cena in this match:

tl;dw Cena eats spots from a less impressive looking/less famous wrestler for 20 minutes before hitting a terrible, repetitive, no dimes (except it drew millions of dimes, kids loved this shit) come back. If you weren't a kid, this shit made you stop watching.

Yan census was a workhorse sure the guy sucked at wrestling but he was there day in and out, Raw, PPV, house shows not like modern era champs that barely wrestler, hell he even have time for make-a-wish shit.

i stopped watching during this time. i like heel cena, face cena was horrible since he's so tiny, his moves barely look like the hurt and he doesn't even lose. i do get the appeal he has for kids but fuck man he was insufferable.

I was a kid and I kept watching, but was a massive Miz, Wade Barret and Dolph Ziggler fan. Was stoked when Miz finally got his WWE championship run.

Mixed opinons. Some good matches but really should have moved on sooner as he got very stale as a top guy. The peak of this was the Nexus shit and their burial was unforgivable honestly.

2009-2013 was the worst of SuperCena booking. I can’t comment on 04-08 Cena too much because I was mostly tuned out, so I picked the worst era to get back into it. It was annoying when Cena singles matches would main event over world title matches.

Don't forget that reign of terror HHH literally turned face to go up against Cena in 2006 and the fans instantly got behind him because they were sick as fuck of the Cena astroturning even then. CM Punk made himself the biggest star in the business in 2011 and even after he won the title they were putting him as 2nd fiddle to Cena where Cena main evented 11 out of 12 PPV's with Punk as the champion.

They sucked at making new rop stars back then and Cena was superhumanly consistent at staying fit and he was promoing and wrestling every Raw. There wasn't anyone who would have carried the company back then aside from Cena. Edge always sucked, Orton was a good heel but not the top guy, hunter and shawn were doing DX and Taker and there basically wasn't anyone else
