The rock should've never gotten involved in WM 40. The main event should've just been Cody vs Roman, with Cody pinning Roman clean.

The bloodline interference, Solo, Seth, Cena, and Taker all coming out to help ruined the authentic feel the match was supposed to have. Fucking Iyo vs Bailey felt more serious than Cody vs Roman. Legends coming out of nowhere to save the day felt out of place.

Literally nobody on planet earth gives a shit about "clean finishes" besides absolute nerds like Bryan Alvarez. The only thing people give a shit about is the outcome and if they were entertained. People enjoy chaos and twists. The whole idea of "clean finishes" is something made up by insufferable smarks on wrestling forums. Nobody else cares, at all. The attitude era had basically no clean finishes. Nobody noticed or cared because it was entertaining

Not true. When the rock was set to face Roman instead of Cody, people got pissed and they didn't give a fuck about the Rock wrestling again. They wanted Cody vs Roman. WM 40 never needed rock.

I don't know man. I'm not saying interferences are bad, but It just didn't make sense for legends to pop up out of nowhere to help. It's understandable from a business standpoint but not much else.

Yes absolutely. Rock had no business in this feud storyline.

Also yes, absolutely. It brought in a lot of mainstream attention. So many viewers who haven't watched wrestling since the attitude era were brought in because of the Rock. Especially to see the Rock be a bad guy.
So overall, it was good for business but bad for the art. Win some lose some. I'm over it at this point.

Interferences are great. What maybe isn't so great is when your biggest match of the year relies on a guy whose peak was over 20 years ago, or when two guys whose peaks were over 10 years ago show up despite having had no buildup whatsoever involved with the story.
When The Rock won his first title back in 1998, he didn't need Ric Flair supporting the storyline to make it popular, and the match didn't have Randy Savage and Roddy Piper suddenly show up to pop the crowd.

It wasn’t that chaotic. Every run in felt like everyone going through carefully planned motions. That’s my issue with it. It’s not truly off the rails. Cena and Undertaker coming out had no purpose beyond a cute pop. Should’ve been Kevin and Sami helping since they were actually more involved with the story. Also, yes, I would’ve preferred a straight 1v1 where the story could’ve been Roman is alone and gets truly bested, but I suppose that’s not as exciting.

Based off watching both, I think it works better if Cody won last year, desu. As much as I enjoyed Rock's run, it didn't really do anything for Cody or Roman. Last year, it felt like a bigger deal for them personally.

This year, it didn't really feel like there was anything personal between the two. Shit, by the end you kind of rather see Cody vs Rock than even Roman vs Rock which is fucking sad. It certainly bought more eyes, but Mania sold out before that as well.

But since they did it... they kind of had to have a schmoz like that. Roman vs Cody 2 needed to be a schmoz or a cage/hiac to really work.
