The engine is actually pretty damn good, they just did nothing with it.
2K devs mostly are just taking an engine and building around it every year for their games. If you got devs who can actually build out a game they could do something with it easily.

AKI is a first party Nintendo developer now and making fucktons with their girly dress-up games, anon, if they actually wanted to buy the real engine FF was aping it'd cost them a painful amount even by Tony standards I'm sure. It's been 2-3 years since the game came out and they just released a new DLC character.

But anyway, the time to start a new game is now. The Switch is on its way out, and judging by how poorly they're doing the X Series and PS5 will be sunsetting earlier than expected.

Coming up on a year in June and they are still releasing new DLC for it and god knows there's plenty left they could offer to update the roster. Just because they're talks of them looking to do a second doesn't mean anything is underway or would see the light of day for years anyway. So it's not like both can't be true

Fighting games only work if you have larger than life characters, AEW has what, Sting, Darby, Samoa Joe and maybe Dimeless Toni Storm that would be workable in a regular fighting game.

What a sequel needs is, frankly, comparable CAW support with the 2K games and some kind of online infrastructure/interface for trading them.
