Yeah but that spot was really fucking cool and it had a point. AJ needed to totally incapacitate Owens so he forced Rey to splash him from the middle rope and effortlessly rolled Rey into a pin all in one smooth motion. I despise flippyshit but that wasn't flippyshit. That's the best spot I've seen in at least a decade.

I dunno what went wrong with wrestling fans that they now openly shit on high flying. I get there's spot monkeys that try to turn wrestling into tumbling showcases but the WCW cruiserweights and their legacy deserve better.

I don't trust the average opinion on here after I see so much hate for Ricochet and yet he's just as awe-inspiring in the ring as Billy Kidman and the WCW Luchadors. He desperately needs a new gimmick but so do half the Fed roster frankly.

the wcw cruiserweight division was genuinely overrated outside of a few matches. most of it wasn't like rey vs eddie or rey vs ultimo dragon. it was boring shit like xpac vs dean malenko. juvi botching. watered down lucha tags. jericho had shit matches in wcw too.
i'm rewatching nitro right now and i'm way more entertained by guys like mongo mcmichael in the ring than highflyers doing a dull export of shit they were concurrently doing way better versions of in japan and mexico at the time

For as much as he's the Midas of shitty talkers, Paul Heyman can't manage the entire roster. They need to cultivate the manager roster. And as for masks, I dunno why western promotions hate luchador aesthetics so much. It's not like they're hated by the fans. Feels like snobbish shit from management. Rey's only kept his mask because he made it a sticking point in his contract from day 1.

i'm watching 1997 raw at the same time and i'm also kinda dreading the russo shit ramping up in wwf too. sadly the sweet spot where the guys in the main event shoot hate each other and the heat is off the charts couldn't last forever, and neither could steve austin's neck, but they did make a billion dollars and win the ratings war without half the best dudes in these feuds, so power to them
