The version of him we've gotten in WWE could have never existed there. Because you sure as hell can't be EVP and be an underdog as well. But same with Kenny. His heel run as champion did great but he's been extremely flat and uneventful as a babyface. Same goes for the Young Bucks. They can actually do shit as heels but as faces they're just kind of there. Meanwhile Hangman who isn't an EVP can do either just fine. It's not even just an AEW thing. Look at Rock now. For the first time in decades people shit all over him because he's come back not just as a wrestler but as a wrestler who's on the WWE board
