He was a boring shovelman who built up nobody....and wasn't allowed to even if he wanted to. It wasn't until the mid 2010s that Vince grudgingly admitted he needed to build new talent or the company dies before he can take it away from his kids.

The kind of damage him and Vince did from 2008 to 2014 is what Hogan WISHED he could have done. Pro Wrestling is unique in that it has never RECOVERED fans and followers and likely never will. Total following peaked in the 80s, television following peaked right before WCW died.

And now nobody cares. Literally nobody gives a shit.

It was unwatchable. It was embarrassing to admit you watched Raw at the time, since it was targeted at young kids. To me, Cena represented a political shift in WWE where Vince focused more on tribute to the troops, WWE movies and Linda's political career over the show. He is a safe, commodified archetype of an American Hero. Perfect for kids to project onto but boring as fuck.

Depends if you think wrestling should be a medium with artistic merit or if you view wrestling as a business to make money.
As a kid during that era I preferred watching Smackdown or WWECW. RAW was almost unwatchable, but I'd blame that more on the guest host gimmick than Cena.
