I think 1 is better to 2 and New Vegas is closer in tone to 1. 1 actually felt like a Mad Max 2 post apocalypse. 2 felt like some weird carnival filled with random shit from Chinese & Italian mobsters to aliens running all over the place. From a gameplay perspective 2 is the best due to the variety but 1 felt far more focused from a story & role playing perspective since you could clearly see how their economy functioned and which towns were the farming towns & what not. 1 didn't look like a hodgepodge of cultures all situated in the same general landmass. New Vegas corrected that and made it about 2 main opposing cultures (neo cons & shitlibs vs Roman larpers) & some rich fuck Mr House. Wasteland 2 feels like the real sequel to 2 & New Vegas but I really don't like the robot focus in the WL setting and prefer the mutants & brotherhood of steel of fo.
I'm aware that Wasteland influenced Fallout but this is one of those cases where Fallout is way better than its original inspiration, at least 1,2 & NV are.
