He's a weird one. Was at various times primed to be the new Shawn Michaels, or Edge, or Triple H, but has been marred by injuries and never really found a gimmick that stuck. Regardless, he's been a mainstay in the main event scene for years because he's decent at a lot of things if not excellent at any one thing. The "drip god joker" shtick he's been doing is the most personality he's ever shown in his career but is still a midcard gimmick at best. Honestly it's just a case of a very solid hand who's a company man through-and-through, who WWE can trust to put on good matches and deliver better than average promos but will never in his life be a breakout star. The very definition of mid, but good enough.
Btw...he could absolutely level up and become something greater if he devoted himself to a new gimmick. Always thought a 90s-style loose canon brawler gimmick would suit him now that he can't move like a ninja anymore. Short hair, leather jacket, a baseball bat or iron pipe and a completely unhinged promo style while fucking people up like some comic book assassin would be an absolute dimes reinvention imo.
