>>14395804a little bit of history.
at first it was EMLL, and when it returned to national tv around 88-89, the business boomed HARD in México (yeah Lucha libre was a thing but then became THE THING, just below Football soccer) , thanks a lot to the sons of the legends of the movies of luchadors being the protagonists, Hijo del Santo, Blue Demon Jr, Rayo de Jalisco Jr, Dr Wagner Jr (that's why the Jr, or the "el Hijo de" became such a huge thing for the characters of luchadores) alongside established legends such as Mil Mascaras and Canek, and insanely popular new figures like Octagon, Atlantis, Blue Panther, Oro, Pierroth, Corazón de León, and of course, Konnan and Vampiro.
The style was a mix, technical wrestling with lotsa grapple holds (the ones Bryan Danielson faps to), the aerial style here and there that only a few like Oro or Ultimo Dragon where taking more risks, and a litlte bit of violence and blood. You can see the horrible blade jobs that Perro Aguayo, Villano or los Brazos had in their foreheads.
But then, EMLL changed to CMLL and his headbooker, Antonio Peña, was denied of a raise, and plotted to make a rival company and took many of the current stars, and along with discovering new guys like Psicosis and Rey fucking Mysterio, their style became more into spectacle, high flying spots and a little more violence and drama stories directly copied from WWF, along with the name of the annual event Triplemania, which became such a megahit, that CMLL was left envious and full of rage.
Years later and AAA took to copy everything the hardcore era of attitude WWE was, meanwhile CMLL took the line of being the more traditional and serious style of wrestling, that means, it is very rare to see a chair spot (almost nonexistent) and the most hardcore match is a cage match every 6 or 7 years. Meanwhile you can see in every Triplemania almost all of their matches are hardcore and overbooked fun mess.
And thats about it in very few words.
