See: a movie with believable fight scenes vs. one that looks fake. The viewer KNOWS it's just a movie. But if the fight looks believable, as in internally consistent without winks at the camera and in jokes and obvious bullshit, then the viewers get emotionally invested and care about the outcome. On the other hand, a fake looking fight scene is met with laughs and mockery. The viewer might still be entertained, but in a completely different way. They don't have any emotional investment at all. It's just for laughs, just one big joke.
Modern slop is, for the most part, all one big joke. And you can tell because the crowds don't give one flying fuck who wins or loses or buy in for one single moment of a spot. It's more like a circus show, an athletic exhibition. Gymnastics.
That can be entertaining in its own way, but it's not pro wrestling.
