>>14462630Not that anon, but yeah. What I have seen of AEW, at least the parts everyone agrees are good, is purist wrestling. No story, no characters, just two guys going out there and pulling off a lot of moves at a high level.
I mean it's fine, I can watch a few matches like that and agree with Meltzer and the people in the AEW PPV game threads that they are very well put together matches and Ospreay and Danielson are very good at doing moves. I just can't muster up a single fuck to care about it outside of a curiosity. I am unironically more engaged and more curious about some former D-1 collegiate wrestler who pretends to be a mafia boss building a feud with a Russian expat from Germany pretending to be a former Spetsnaz operator, by breaking his wrist which ultimately leads to that Russian losing his title because his wrist was still not 100% and so he couldn't nail his finisher properly.
It's goofy, it shouldn't make sense, but the way Shawn built these various character over months and months, showing their morals, pathos, and ethos, leading to a logical and satisfying conclusion is really enjoyable to me.
