It's not deathmatch stuff, but just a way for guys to get free drinks for the night and keep their status clear with the Japanese government because they are technically working between the big shows.
The Baka Gaijin stuff that gets booked for actual deathmatch promotions is the real job, and usually Chris isn't involved outside of a business/translator standpoint.
Big two deathmatch promotions in Japan rn are BMJ and Freedoms. That said a lot of smaller promotions will have deathmatch stuff here and there. You can find micro-indie stuff like Burst on youtube, and they had a pretty based main event deathmatch with Jun Kasai and their promoter Towa Iwasaki last month
