I remember this shit being on TV at the time and it was so painfully fucking awkward to watch and endure seeing all of this play out knowing what was actually going on behind the scenes but at the same time, it was really compellingly well done on WWE's part to intertwine that real life drama into their story lines. It was a rare moment of them capitalizing on something topical occurring, and how could they not? It didn't make it suck any less, and it was somewhat punitive for them to do it on their part but the drama the trio caused the company made it sort of justified on their part. Matt was even threatening about killing himself over a bitch like a fucking retard. Make no mistake about it, it launched Edge's career into the stratosphere and while Matt really floundered and stumbled for a long time afterwards, he ultimately reinvented himself and came back better than ever and was the most talked about thing in wrestling with his Broken Matt Hardy gimmick. Both men ended up being respected world champions, got married to different women and had children, and eventually bro's again. Lita ended up as busted dog mom. Like out of everyone, she fucking lost the most.
