Before the switch to digital, we could get the big three networks and PBS (but not Fox) over-the-air. My parents originally got a dish primarily for Fox after it became necessary for football. After the digital switchover, the network affiliates all powered down and switched from VHF to UHF, so now it's only possible to get PBS over the air (ironically, the PBS transmitter, the only one we have LOS to, is still VHF). Now we use cable for internet anyway, and bundling a basic cable tier TV package with the internet service is cheaper than paying for a streaming service that includes network TV (most of which didn't even carry at least one of our local stations last I checked).
