They're just fishing for attention and seeing how well they can control you. It's like a crowd that does a bunch of dumb chants mid-match which gives the impression that the match is decent, but the crowd doesn't cheer when someone actually wins the match because they don't really give a shit. Some girls will also work guys for free food. Don't discount this.

Best you can do is make sure you're not getting worked for a cheap pop, and work on your match qualities. Good promos can hype up a match and get it a spot on the card, but you've still gotta be good in the ring to get the angle over.
