Speaking of Muto, i know this is All Japan but had this goofy little tag match pop up in my timeline. Goldust sticks out like a sore thumb and Hakushi is still one of the best looks ever. Also the duo spray with Muta and Tajiri was great.

The more I learn about the booking change in 87 the more I support Gedo exiting for someone else with a new vision for the younger guys. Their attendance is still stable so post-G1 would be a perfect start.

Roland Bock wanted a more MMA/Shoot Style presentation of wrestling in Germany. He decided to run his own tour that would showcase a bunch of legit athletes and multiple fighting style in worked shoot competition called Catch Europa. He had heard about Inoki's fight with Ali and about some of the stuff Inoki was doing in Japan and so booked him to come work in Germany as part of the tour. Inoki was going to work his way through the tournament and then face Bock in the main event of the finals. In one of the preliminary matches Inoki faced Karl Mildenberger in a boxing match. He also faced judoka Willem Ruska, who had worked in NJPW prior, in a Judo match as well as Austrian Olympic wrestlers Eugen Wiesberger Jr. and Wilfried Dietrich in Greco-Roman matches. There was also a Dutch Kickboxer, a French Savate practitioner, as well as a bevy of European and Japanese catch style wrestlers on the tour.

Like the other anon explained, Inoki participated in a MMA tour in Europe. He entered as Killer Inoki (one of Inoki's popular nicknames at that time) after he changed his combat style in a series of MMA matches in Japan prior to the tour, most notablly against Ruska, Ali and Monsterman. He had a total of 20 matches in 6 countries over a period of 23 days. He won 12 matches, had 7 draws and lost 1 via judges decision. Fun fact, Inoki entered the tour with a shoulder injury.

the reason Bock no-sells him in the final is because Bock was sick of his shit and wasn't going to let himself get big-leagued in Germany

I was rewatching the New Beginning in Sapporo shows. I know pretty much everyone thinks Tama Tonga is a shitter but I liked the way he went out of New Japan. I liked his early work in New Japan, during Devitt and AJ era Bullet Club when he was just a vicious, foul-mouthed heel. I felt my enjoyment for him fade during the tale end of Kenny Club during the whole BC/Elite Civil War stuff just before AEW, and he only really got back on the wagon in the last 6 months or so of his New Japan run.
I'm still glad he didn't choose to become a tranny, and Tonga Loa still never got over for me. Hikuleo has really improved in the last 6 months though, so I will be a bit sad if he fucks off after June.

Charlton is a great third mic color guy, but he is not someone who should be doing play by play. This randomly showed up in my recommends, which is weird because I don't watch shitty ass wrestling at all outside of the Lingerie Wrestling Championships. I do watch Mike Tyson knock outs and this is a boxing match, sorta.
You can clearly see early signs of MMA because there were multiple takedown attempts by Inoki which looked like 90s era mma. He even tried to lock in an armbar while on the ground but he failed to lock it in every single time because of the 3 second time limit.

Inoki does a damn good job of making this shit look real. He really does have the situational awareness of a fighter. It's something that you don't see at all from modern wrestlers, outside of someone like Brock Lesnar. Speaking of which, the referee is fucking tiny. What the fuck did Inoki eat to make him so damn huge?

That period where Tony was playing with his CMLL toys made me think we'd be spared this year.
