>>14563456If we think about this logically, it makes much more sense to rate an entire movie vs a single scene and likewise we should rate entire wrestling shows, not individual matches.
Completely out of context, a Meltzer 5 star 30 minute bangerino can look great, but as part of a 4 hour show plus 2 hour pre-show, the perception (and the fan/attendee experience in particular) changes completely. A shooting star press or dive through a table should be a highlight of any show, but what if it's already been done twice already? It effects the flow, the audience reaction, all of it. We get the most organic and spontaneous commentator reactions when THEY see spontaneous and original wrestling....not when they see the same chop/elbow for the 9th time tonight and have to pretend it's just as exciting as the first time. When the booth just goes through the motions, the entire experience suffers.
I like Ospreay but I do wish he would ham it up a bit. He knows the criticism is that he's a flippy shitter, so why not throw a guy into an abdominal stretch and get a "THIS IS WRESTLING" chant going? Throw it back in the face of the stodgy podcasters who think they know best. But I digress.
If Meltzer stopped rating every/most matches on cards and only singled out 2-3 matches each night to rate -- and had an articulable reason for doing so -- the entire non-WWE industry would be better for it.
