Pretty sure they must have reached out, but DDT has a stigma with the boomers and they would have been doing most of the scouting. He was also the top guy in DDT so he was probably unwilling to leave to do a wwe tryout during his title reigns. It's more shocking that no one has gone after MAO since he has ok English and his gimmick is pretty much just Japanese Steve-O, so he would easily get over.

What people forget about Takeshita is he was widely considered a failure as ace of DDT. He didn't draw, never really got out of Harashima's shadow, and he got hurt multiple times in top of that. His style of big, flashy, crowd popping moves is way more suited to an american indie influenced audience, which is why he gets so much praise now
I was there, western fans that watched DDT resented him

This is true and I was saying this during his entire run, but in the final 2 years of his DDT run he had figured it all out and was killing it.
The biggest issue with Takeshita was that he keeps changing his finish and every single time he chooses a shit move that looks bad.

The only reason Takeshita got signed was because Kenny put in the word for him. Japanese wrestling outside of NJPW isn't on the radar of people in USA.
