If they brought Doink back, you'd have to handle it in one of two ways:
1. An existing talent takes over the role for a short period of time and you explicitly go the route of Doink being Krusty the Clown; a jaded asshole with a heart of gold. Someone like Miz could make it work especially if you go the Elias route of everyone pretending Miz isn't Doink but one heel (like Solo or Tonga) screaming that it's Miz pulling a fast one.
2. Give the gimmick to Dexter Lumis and 100% update the visuals and keep him a heel. Dexter can do the whole silent mute clown thing but the Doink gimmick could definitely use an upgrade visually especially since Dexter is a big guy unlike Bourne and to make him less silly looking and more scary.
