Inoki was the one who booked Hogan to go over him in that ridiculous fashion without telling anyone. Inoki said in an interview that the decision to not count Hogan as the first IWGP champ was forced by Asahi TV who didn't want to show a non-Japanese champion in their weekly tv show World Pro Wrestling, and as his backers and sponsors, he had to comply.
