>>14635428>>one of Vince's greatest strengths was his ability to be culturally ahead of the curveThe Attitude Era was already like 3 years behind the curve, and only happened because he decided to rip off what Heyman was doing in ECW. Listen to any wrestlers theme song from like 1996 (hell, let's just use Shawn Michaels's "Sexy Boy" theme as an example) and remember the entire Grunge movement hit and took over Rock music like FIVE YEARS prior.
Outside of the Attitude Era, Vince was always super behind pop culture. WWE didn't start regularly using rap music in shows (without it being a dumb gimmick) until the mid 2000s, everything before that was all generic radio rock. Or look at the Raw Guest Hosts era. How relevant were Jerry Spring, Cheech & Chong, Pete Rose, or Dennis Miller in 2010? Another big example from the dirt sheets was Vince supposedly didn't understand Paul Burchill's pirate gimmick because he'd never seen or even heard of the Pirate of the Caribbean films (one of the biggest film franchises at the time) and kept demanding they give Burchill and eye patch and a parrot.
