It's not though. It's the exact reason I gave. They have all of 5 years of brand equity which much of the past year was spent trying to rebuild it after all the shit with Punk went down. People who are into wrestling will watch WWE. People who are really into wrestling will watch both. They aren't equal brands though by any means and they really can't be yet. If anything for AEW to have grown into what they did as quickly as they have to the point people hold the two against each other is pretty great. And sure Tony and AEW will tout itself as whatever they will. But of course they will. What are they supposed to say? That they're not as good as the other company? The reality is they're the second place company and get the second place numbers. It's WWE's game to lose and they've been winning the past few years. As long as WWE is putting out something good then there isn't really any room for AEW's numbers to grow. When people want an alternative from WWE is when AEW (or anywhere else for that matter, TNA in the mid 2000s, NJPW's western surge in the 2010s, etc) has the chance to grab some eyes away from them as they have in their initial years. I get that's not as fun as all the weekly console warring but that's the reality of it
