I think the ratings talk is never going to go away, but its also
May 13, 2020: 654,000 viewers
May 19, 2021: 821,000 viewers
May 11, 2022: 840,000 viewers
May 17, 2023: 814,000 viewers
In May of 2023 TBS and USA network were both reporting drops of about 7-10% YOY from 2022 and that trend has basically been identical from 2021 to 2022.
Dynamite sort of spoiled itself by bucking that trend for years. But a 7% drop in viewership would put it in the 755K range which is basically where its been the last month
TBS average primetime viewership a year ago was 786,000 with a 10% drop which again puts AEW on the "good side" of the ratings for the network.
Its very hard to talk about ratings while ignoring that viewership is down eveywhere. Streaming is part of it for sure but people just dont have their lives revolve around telivision the way they used to. Fox News and CNN are down like 20% YOY for the last several years. No network is averaging 2,000,000 primetime viewers for the first time ever.
I really don't think you need to worry that much about the week over week ratings. We know from WBD that millions of people "watch" AEW weekly. We know their PPV buys are in the 120-200K range. They aren't selling that many PPVs off an audience of 800K people.
