The idea of wrestling is not simply the wrestling part and hasn't been since the 1930's. Even NJPW doesn't adhere to that anymore, it's about character contrast and presenting stories through the format of wrestling, but not simply "wrestling.

the wrestling part of wrestling is genuinely awful. the embarrassment i'd feel if i sat down to watch a match with someone who doesn't watch wrestling and told them the wrestling part is really good and it's just 2 topless guys slapping each other tits for 5 minutes and doing some gymnastics and choreography for the next 10 minutes after that.
